Always having an eye for color, placement and details, Jeffrey, as a boy, would help his grandmother rearrange her furniture and the contents of her china cabinets. By age thirteen he knew he wanted to become an interior designer and enrolled in art and drafting classes in anticipation of creating a portfolio for college entrance.

From age eight to nineteen, Jeffrey was exposed to many styles of architecture, decoration and furnishings on several trips to Europe. An antique-lover, he continues to explore historical sites and museums across America and abroad. Having had a cousin who donated many works of art to The Newark Museum, The Metropolitan Museum of Art and The Montclair Art Museum (including “Skunk Cabbage” by Georgia O’Keeffe to Montclair), Jeffrey has been able to enjoy numerous decorative art exhibits locally.

Prior to starting JK Interiors, Jeffrey was commissioned for his first freelance project at age twenty-three. Passing the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) Examination in 1996, and therefore advancing from Allied to Professional Membership in the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), he has twice been chosen to participate in NCIDQ surveys on interior design education and professional standards.

New Jersey now recognizes interior design as a certified profession rather than a trade, and Jeffrey is among the first in the state to have been certified by the Interior Design Examination and Evaluation Committee, which is part of the New Jersey State Board of Architects (under NJ Office of Attorney General/Division of Consumer Affairs). Designers with certification have been qualified by the state in terms of their education and experience. Jeffrey was certified in December 2006.

Never a design dictator, Jeffrey works with his clients to create aesthetically pleasing environments that reflect their owners’ tastes and sensibilities.
